			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In a hot yoga class that I recently attended, I saw my past self on the mat next to me.   She was angry, frustrated and in pain. Even blurted out &#8220;She makes me sick&#8221; when the instructor asked another student to deepen their fold in Hanuman. I just wanted to hug her and let her know that a dedicated practice will allow you to get there. Oh and smile because you made it to this practice and that is where it all begins.</p>
<p>I have those days also. Don&#8217;t wanna get out of bed, don&#8217;t want to go to class. Don&#8217;t feel like my practice is as pretty as hers. (BTW- What happens on your mat stays on your mat. So try not to compare.) Sometimes I don&#8217;t get on the mat and I then I think about it while my husband kicks my but in a round of PS3 golf. &#8220;Should have gone to yoga, at least there I&#8217;m better than him.&#8221; lol</p>
<p>So here are just a few tips on how to be the change.</p>

<li>First, instead of committing to totally transforming your entire life, think about one or two major focuses you’d like to have this year. It takes 12 weeks to form a habit, so make sure you are  committing to only one or two changes at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed or discouraged.</li>
<li>Next, look at your past history. Have you tried this resolution in the past? Has it worked or not worked? Why? By reflecting on past resolutions and commitments to yourself, you’re able to analyze what went wrong and how this time can be different.</li>
<li>Finally, make sure you have a support group or team. This can be your family, friends, or an online community. Check in with these people, update them on your successes and difficulties, and celebrate your accomplishments with them!</li>
</ul>

<p>Listening to a podcast by Tara Brach, she was talking about Buddha and the four noble truths. The fourth noble truth is the path, it&#8217;s here, it&#8217;s how you remember. Based on meditative attention of all elements of life. Don&#8217;t quote me on the but I think it means this is how you find self-improvement.</p>
<p>I was reminded of the story of a Buddha statue made of clay that sat in a temple in Thailand. I heard this story while I was there and loved it for I thought Buddha was just being protected. When a monk noticed that the statue had cracked he began to explore the interior.  He saw gold inside, not just the gold we have in our hearts but the statue was made of gold. Buddha stood the test of time by covering his true radiance. When we identify with our veils we find ourselves trying to cover our innate purity to get through the difficult times.</p>

<p>In 1997 when Buddha and I met in the cave under the falls at Upper Creek in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina the path was revealed to me. Since then the plaster has been on thick, for me anyway. To protect myself from the difficult times. Now as I chisel away at the plaster to Awaken and Remember my path, that I am me, that I am Truth &#8220;Sat Nam&#8221; these difficult times will always be there if I don&#8217;t diminish the veil. Not letting any event throw me off my path because it is time to remember who we are and why we are brought together. There is no finish line, there is a journey. There is no rock better than another, we are all chiseled from the same organic matter.  It could take lifetimes of karmic conditioning to make progress on the path.</p>

<p><strong>Getting in this pose can happen from several different postures:</strong> From Down Dog, Table Top or Lotus the object of this pose is to bring one knee forward to the side edge of your mat with the other extended behind you. Lengthen through the quadriceps, the front surface of the back leg and abducted the front leg knee bent with the heal of your front foot under the hip crease of the opposite side. Melissa has demonstrated this with a variation adding a twist and moving the heal away from the hips.</p>
<p>Some effects of eka pada raja kapotasana:</p>
<p>rejuvenates the spine, exercises the neck and shoulders, the thyroids, parathyroids and adrenals receive a rich supply of blood, enlivens the gallbladder meridian and increases vitality.</p>

<p>When practicing this move breathe through each movement to get there, play with your own variation while having compassion for your body and do only what feels good, I personally love a forward fold here releasing everything to the Earth giving  a piriformis  and sciatic nerve stretch.</p>
